Machine Cutting Tool Applications

Here, you can find a small selection of our laser marking work within the Machine Tooling sector . The examples shown are not exhaustive, so if you cannot see anything that directly meets your immediate needs, please call us to discuss how we can help you with our extensive range of laser marking equipment and support expertise.

Historically, metal cutting tools have been marked with identifying information such as diameters, serial numbers or manufacturing information. This information would have been applied by either embossing, chemical etching or hand engraving, dependant upon the tool material used.

Using a Scorpion Rapide fibre laser marker produces a high contrast, dark surface annealed laser marking on HSS and Tool Steel and a high contrast polished surface laser marking on Carbide. You can laser mark individual serial numbers, add company logos at the press of a button, without the need to change tools or produce fresh masks.

Laser Electrox recommend the use of either the Raptor or Scorpion Rapide fibre laser markers with a 163mm focal length flat field lens. This combination produces a small spot size, using pulse width adjustment to vary the energy density, enabling the laser to produce high contrast laser marks on a wide variety of materials, including metals and plastics.

All toolholders must be marked with their diameter, height and bore dimensions as a legal requirement. The cutting blades within the holder are also individually identified, so the blade manufacturer can identify it as an original and for warranty purposes.

Using a Raptor fibre laser marker, you can produce a high contrast engraved mark through the anodised surface of the toolholder and on the cutter blade a high contrast polished surface mark.

Laser Electrox recommend the use of the Raptor fibre laser marker with a 163mm focal length flat field lens, this combination enables capability for both surface removal and deeper laser engraving.
